Project Structure

This project involves the generation of new knowledge by research institutions in the field of sustainable phosphorus recovery in the agricultural sector, the transfer and assimilation of this knowledge by the SME partnership and then, the post-project exploitation of this new knowledge by the SME partnership, who will collectively own it. The SME partnership constitutes a supply chain for the manufacture and commercialisation of the proposed PhosFarm technology

The consortium's SME members of the supply chain do not have the capacity and technical resources needed to create the device from scratch. The SME have therefore chosen to apply for 'Research for SMEs' funding within the framework of the European Union's 7th Framework Programme in order to out-source the technological developments in the PhosFarm project to professional and skilled RTD performers: Fraunhofer, having outstanding expertise in enzyme technology, sustainable use of resources and process development, especially in the area of nutrient recovery; VITO, having in-depth knowledge in enzyme immobilization; and SLU, possessing long experience in Life Cycle Assessment performance. By having included these RTD performers to the consortium, the SMEs will be able to out-source most of the technological developments required for the development of the PhosFarm technology.
